Hospice Services

Home infusion therapy is the administration of intravenous (through a vein) medication, such as antibiotics and chemotherapy, to patients in the comfort of their own homes. Small, portable pumps allow the medication to be administered through an IV (intravenous) line and make it possible for many patients to go about their normal daily activities while receiving their medication. Patients who receive home infusion therapy enjoy the satisfaction of returning to familiar surroundings, resuming daily activities, and taking an active role in their own care. These activities offer significant emotional benefits that facilitate healing.

Types of therapies:

  • Antibiotics
  • Chemotherapy - IV administration of chemotherapy agents designed to have specific and toxic effects on disease causing cells or organisms
  • Hydration therapy - IV administration of fluids and electrolytes
  • Pain management - IV administration of narcotics and other medications designed to relieve pain
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) - IV administration of nutritional substances by central line infusion to patients who are either already malnourished or have the potential for developing malnutrition
  • Catheter Care - care for the peripheral and central line catheters in the absence of all other therapies
  • Anticoagulation Therapy - the use of Lovenox to prevent the formation of blood clots
  • Enteral Nutrition - the delivery of nutrients by a tube into the stomach or intestines
